Vinyl Wall Covering
Tess Parisi

General Information
This strong and easy to clean synthetic wall covering that comes in many different patterns, colors, and designs. It is a layered paper sheet made of polyvinyl chloride which is resistant to bacteria and beneficial for areas that need to be cleaned often and with chemicals. It is made of 40% recycled HDPE and is also abrasion resistant. There are many different grades and classes that specify the type of vinyl and how it is used in interiors.
Vinyl wall covering is easily washable and customizable to fit the size and shape of different areas. It also comes in different sizes to fit certain spaces.
Environmental Impact
In some cases, vinyl wall covering can emit chemicals that can be harmful. When this is possible, there is a period of time where the covering is left alone without any human interaction so it has time to settle. It also needs to undergo some tests for sustainability and health. One of these being the Steiner Tunnel Test which is when the product is heated and the impact tested is how far and much the fire spreads.

Use in Interior Setting
1. In this hospital, vinyl wall covering is being used to keep sanitization and health as a priority. It can be adjusted to different colors and designs to accommodate the space.
2. Vinyl panels are being easily connected to the wall to add dimension and a faux feeling of brick without all the unsanitary elements of brick.
3. This wall covering is adding depth and moodiness to the space while including different textures.
4. This faux wood vinyl made by Joanna Gains is a good way to include a wood accent without including the possible harmful aspects of wood.
5. This photo shows how vinyl wall covering can be textured to add depth and contour to a space as well as a overall color and unique style.

Application
Before installation there should be the necessary substrates behind the vinyl like gypsum board. This makes the application easier and longer lasting. It is also easier to complete this type of application with wall panels so it can be easily transported and put into place.
