Gypsum & Plaster

Introduction

Plaster is the traditional method of finishing an interior wall surface and is used to apply 3-dimensional ornamentation. It is made of lime, sand, and fibers and is more fire-resistant than drywall. Plaster application is labor-intensive and requires skilled craftsmen. Gypsum board is widely available and is the preferred method for finished walls because it is a quicker and more reasonable method. Gypsum is also naturally fire-resistant and is typically specified for areas of egress.
